Chemo #1 Tomorrow

Due to some rescheduling, our first chemo treatment will be Monday, tomorrow, at 1 pm.

As usual, things on the homefront are in sort of a turmoil. We are babysitting the grandkids today, they will spend the night, and their father will pick them up tomorrow at 12:30. Brooke is off to a reunion of sorts in Seattle this weekend. Some of her old Centralia girlfriends are re-collecting and then going to the Mariner - Tigers game on Monday; and as it turns out, one of their former classmates, Lyle Overby, is a starter for the Tigers. They're hoping to talk to him.

Then James is working swing-shift, so he'll be here as soon as possible after working all night. I think he's going to try to sleep a few hours before getting here.

Originally Lois wanted me to DROP HER OFF for her appointment, then take them home, then . . . pick up her mother for her 2:30 doctor appointment right across the street from the Cancer Center, then come pick up Lois, then go back and get her mom, take her home, then the two of us could come home. This is fairly normal around here...this type of scheduling...and driving....and picking up and dropping off... the exception, of course, will be the chemo.

I said, "No." The grandkids' father will pick them up here, at our house; and I'm going to go with her to chemo. Then, since there really isn't anyone to get her mother to her appt., (Lois' sister and husband are in Tennesee visiting their daughter) I'll go pick up her mother and take her to her doctor.

And then, on top of all that, it was 109 degrees here yesterday. Ah, summer . . .

Jim, I'm glad you put your foot down on that one!! It made me tired to hear about it! I hope both of your vehicles have air conditioning!!
Lois, I don't blame you for being nervous I would be to - but the worst part is over, isn't it? I think so - you may not even loose your hair!! I know you were looking forward to black, curly hair coming in though!! They must have put the shunt in (the apparatus they insert for the chemo) I'm so glad you were able to talk to both Jenny & Betty about those things. At least you'll be busy tonight and in the morning with the kids and won't have time to think (as much) about it. I didn't recognize the name of the kid that is a starter for the Tigers! I'll be thinking about and praying there are no after affects from your treatment.
Love you - Lorena

Lois, You do not know me, but I went to grade school with Jim. I truly empathize with what you are going through. My Mother had breast cancer in 1957 & again in about 1968. She was such an inspiration to me & to others. She was my best friend as well as my Mother & passed away from brain cancer in 1973. Medicine has changed so very much since those days & I feel in my heart that with the Lord, your supporting husband, family, & friends behind you that you WILL lick this in the biggest way!! I admire your spirit in your postings & your great attitude!! I will keep you & your family in my thoughts & prayers! Cordelia (Thacker) Gilbert

Update on the update: Yes, I will take Lois to chemo tomorrow and I will be with her throughout the procedure. James will pick up the kids here at our house before we leave, and my mother will pick up Lois' mother and take her to the doctor. The only downside is that both our moms will be out in the heat for a while. It was 100.7 degrees in our backyard today, and a readerboard on one of the banks near here read 120 degrees. It was in direct sunlight though.

Good news about just chemo! Best of luck!

Glad you had a great time in Sequim seeing the ol’ bunch. Will be heading there myself in August to see Leon and Lindy!

Jim, you guys are in the midst of the procedure as I find your update. Lois is in my prayer. Your day sounds exhausting, but busy is best! Hug your wife and mother for me. Tell them it is an Oklahoma special. Aunt Bill
